- The Lady Toppers kicked off conference play with a bang on Thursday in Huntington, West Virginia. The Thundering Herd took a 1-0 lead in the second half. The Lady Toppers found a late equalizer on a goal from Mackenzie Crittenberger to send it to overtime. WKU got right to business in extra time, scoring a golden goal just 23 seconds in. The goal was scored by Sophia Fondren on an assist by Brina Micheels, her second assist of the night.
- WKU is currently ranked as the No. 6 team in the South region in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
- The Lady Toppers haven't lost a regular season conference match since 2019. During that span WKU has gone 7-0-2 with the last loss coming at Rice on October 20.
- The Lady Toppers have scored 12 total goals this season, scored by eight different goal scorers. Katie Erwin, Avery Jacobsen, Micheels and Crittenberger each have two and Lily Rummo, Annah Hopkins, Briana Sayoc and Fondren have one each.
- Erwin is the leading points earner for WKU with eight total on two goals and four assists. Micheels is second with seven points on two goals and three assist.
- In goal, Alexis Bach has gotten the starting nod in six matches, recording clean sheets in four and posting a 0.66 goals against average. Both marks are the second best in C-USA.
- WKU and Middle Tennessee have faced 20 times in the two program's histories. The Blue Raiders are tied as the second most played opponent in WKU's history, behind North Texas and tied with FIU.
- The Lady Toppers lead the series 8-6-6 and have a 5-0-4 record against the Blue Raiders in Bowling Green.
- WKU has won two straight in the series, most recently winning 3-1 in Murfreesboro on Feb. 26, 2021.
- Sunday's match will be the first between the two teams in Bowling Green since the 2016 season. The last three meetings have taken place in Murfreesboro.
- The Blue Raiders have won two straight matches coming into Sunday's tilt. Prior to the win against FIU, Middle Tennessee concluded non-conference play with a 2-1 win against Vanderbilt in Nashville.
- Middle Tennessee features one of the most decorated offensive players in the league in Peyton DePriest. She is C-USA's all-time leading goal scorer and is currently fourth in the country with her eight goals this season. That mark leads the conference as well as her 19 total points which is the eighth nationally. Through nine matches, DePriest is averaging 5.11 shots per game which is seventh in the NCAA.
- In goal, Hannah Suder has started in eight matches for Middle Tennessee this season. She has a 1.42 goals against average coming into the match and has made 35 saves on the season.
- The Lady Toppers hit the road once again next, traveling to UAB on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
- WKU will return home the following week to host reigning C-USA tournament and West division champion Rice on Saturday, Oct. 2. That match is set for a 7 p.m. first touch.
