Matthew in the Middle | Tucker’s tall tales - Eureka Times-Standard

I’ve looked at Fox from both sides now,
From up and down and still somehow,
It’s Fox illusions I recall,
I really don’t know Fox … at all

Modern news is not about news, it’s about ratings. Who can garner the most eyeballs for advertising dollars and ultimately bottom line profits? We’re talking billions. Unfortunately this has turned news into propaganda media machines for their viewers as people don’t want to watch the news and get informed on the facts. Instead, they want someone confirming their biases. If you believe Barack Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya and raised in a madrassa, you want to see birther proponents talking about this constantly. Who was that New York con man who rode the Obama birther idiocracy to free media attention?

No one does propaganda better than Fox News. The sad truth is news doesn’t sell, opinions do. Fox News found this out the hard way on Election Night 2020 when they were the first major news outlet to call Arizona for Joe Biden. Although the call was correct, their viewers got in a tizzy as they don’t want facts and truth, they want to be told what they believe. Many switched their channel to Newsmax or OAN, who continued to downplay Biden’s election victory — what they wanted to hear. So Fox News realigned their programming to have less news and more opinions. Enter the Hannity Horror Hour and Tucker’s Tall Tales, one hour each of the latest conspiracy theories to cap your day and get you agitated for tomorrow.

Which leads us to this past week, where the right-wing media still can’t admit the former president’s supporters sieged the U.S. Capitol and tried to overthrow democracy. On Thursday, Tucker said, “Well, there’s been an enormous amount of hyperventilating in Washington over a segment we did two nights ago in which we pointed out that there were pretty clearly a number of people in the crowd at Capitol who had had previous contact with the FBI about what was going to happen that day. If that happened, and we believe it did happen, it would not be out of character for the FBI. They’ve done things very much like that before, that is beyond dispute.” Tucker’s source for this outlandish claim was a Darren Beattie article in Revolver News. Beattie, the former President’s speechwriter, was fired from the White House due to his association with white supremacists.

Tucker’s claiming “unindicted co-conspirators” were behind the Jan. 6 Insurrection. He’s telling America that the FBI or FBI informants were behind the Insurrection, not those law enforcement loving, brave patriots dressed in military camo with tactical helmets, body armor, hatchets, lead pipes, bear spray and handguns. In reality, an unindicted co-conspirator is a person known by law enforcement to have engaged in a conspiracy, but isn’t charged in the indictment with that person’s fellow conspirators. Prosecutors may name persons as unindicted co-conspirators for grants of immunity and evidentiary concerns. In other words, we threaten to arrest and jail you, you flip on your buddies and now you’re giving us evidence against others in your crime. Ask anyone in law enforcement. This happens all the time.

This is how the right-wing propaganda echo chamber works. Some whack-job prints something bizarre online. Tucker picks it up and on camera, turns his head, squints his eyes like your dog looking confused and says, “Is it possible that … ?” Notice he didn’t outright lie. He said, “Is it possible?” Next, Republican electeds watching on Fox News have a sound bite where they say, “We need to get to the bottom of the FBI’s involvement on Jan. 6.” Now Fox News reports on what the electeds said. Rinse, repeat. It’s no longer a conspiracy theory, it’s a fact. I saw it on Faux News so it must be true, said millions of Fox News viewers.
Finally, although the CDC and Cal OSHA have loosened the COVID guidelines, only for those who have been vaccinated and frankly, I don’t trust 33% of you out there. I was at the grocery store on Friday and was only one of two customers wearing a mask. COVID is still out there, especially for those not vaccinated. While you’re worrying about the side effects from vaccines, I’ll remind you of the side effects from getting COVID. One obese 75-year-old man has such brain fog from COVID, he’s telling everyone he won an election that he lost by over seven million votes.
