Interested in a mid-June “Cold” front? - KBTX

worldinmiddleeast.blogspot.com

Summer officially kicks off 10:32 pm Sunday evening, although the first full day of the season is not expected to be a typical one for the Brazos Valley. First up, an area of messy, disturbed weather will continue to hang near the Upper Texas Coast tonight and through the first part of Monday. That puts the highest chance for heavy rain along the coast anywhere from pre-sunrise through midday. For the southern and eastern reaches of our area, scattered rain to a few rumbles of thunder may pass you by anytime before early afternoon. Clouds break and radar should go quiet for the afternoon hours, but attention turns to the north with eyes pointed as a rare mid-to-late June cold front approaches.

Scattered areas of thunderstorms are expected to form along the front in Central Texas late Monday afternoon. If those storms can survive the loss of daytime heating, they could reach the Brazos Valley anytime between 6 pm and 10 pm (moving north to south). While the overall odds are low, a storm or two could be on the strong to briefly severe side with damaging wind gusts and heavy rain being the main concerns. Any storm activity should end by 10 pm to midnight. If the front hangs up, there could be a few more spots of rain around the area Tuesday. Either way, you get a break from the June heat for about 24 hours: highs in the mid-90s and heat index values above 105° are in store Monday and Wednesday...but Tuesday brings sub-90° highs and heat index values at or just above 90°!

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy with an isolated rain chance after 5 am. Low: 79. Wind: S 10-15 mph, gusting 20 mph.

Monday: Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance for rain and storms. High: 95. Wind: S 5-15 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy. Low: 70. Wind: S becoming NE 5-10 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain. High: 87. Wind: NNE 5-10 mph.
