Two South Bay middle schools, Fleming in Lomita and Peary in Gardena, have been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Both schools, which are in the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Local South District, were accredited for six years, the longest term granted.
In 2019, White Middle School in Carson and Dana Middle School in Rancho Palos Verdes received accreditation. The district’s high schools have received the designation already — helping students looking to go to college — and the district now is working to accredit its middle schools.
The designations overall give students a boost in their future academic careers.
Last year, the district launched an initiative to also get its middle schools accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Along with White and Dodson, the first round included Frost in Granada Hills; and Irving, Nightingale and Young Oak Kim Academy, all in Los Angeles.
WASC has been accrediting schools since 1962.
