A possible hazardous materials incident that was under investigation at Suffield Middle School on Tuesday morning has been successfully resolved, police said.
Emergency services were called to the school after staff reported that a student arrived at school with an unknown white powder on him, according to police.
Police said the student told them a stranger threw the unknown white powder at him while he was waiting at a bus stop before coming to school.
The student was isolated and his clothing was collected and secured while authorities waited for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to determine if the powder was hazardous, Suffield Police Dept. Chief Richard Brown said.
DEEP determined the unknown powder was not hazardous. It was a cellulose powder and is commonly used in children's toys, authorities added.
The school was placed in secure schools status while the incident was investigated.
