No. 3-seed Middle Tennessee set for C-USA Championship semifinal showdown against No. 1-seed Old Dominion - GoBlueRaiders.com

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the first time since 2015, the No. 3-seeded Middle Tennessee Soccer team will play in the C-USA Championship semifinals on Friday, November 5 against the No. 1-seeded Old Dominion Monarchs. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. CT at FAU Soccer Stadium.

C-USA Accolades
Three Blue Raiders were honored with C-USA postseason accolades on Monday. For the third time over her five-year career, senior forward Peyton DePriest was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year. The honor marked the fifth-straight season DePriest was recognized with all-conference honors. Senior midfielder Sam DeBien was awarded C-USA All-Conference Second Team honors, marking the first C-USA postseason honor for DeBien. Freshman defender Sascha Nielsen was also awarded her first career postseason honor as she was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

Scouting the Blue Raiders
The Blue Raiders are making their first C-USA Championship semifinals appearance since 2015, when No. 5-seeded Middle Tennessee earned a 1-0 victory against the No. 4-seeded Rice Owls to advance to the semifinal round. The Blue Raiders enter Friday's contest with a 9-7-2 overall record.

 Senior Peyton DePriest leads the Blue Raider offense. DePriest leads C-USA in goals (11), points (26), shots (77), and shots on goal (39). Freshman Kirstine Lykke follows DePriest with a team second-best five goals, while also tallying two assists for a team second-best 12 points this season. Senior Sam DeBien, juniors Cambell Kivisto and Elizabeth Slavinksy, as well as sophomore Taylor Hamlett have also scored a pair of goals for the Blue Raiders this season. DeBien has registered three assists to rank third on the team with seven points. Senior Miya Lennon is also tied with DePriest for the team lead in assists with four during the 2021 campaign.
 
Junior Hannah Suder has started 17 games for the Blue Raiders this season. Suder ranks second in C-USA in saves this season with 77 saves. Suder has also recorded four shutouts this season against Belmont, FAU, UTEP, and Rice

Scouting the Monarchs
Old Dominion is in its eighth season under head coach Angie Hind. The 2021 Coach of the Year, Hind has led the Monarchs to their best season since 2006.
 
The No.1 seed and regular-season champions have posted a 11-4-1 record on the season. The Monarchs are on a two-game winning streack, which includes Old Dominions 1-0 quarterfinal overtime win over the UTSA Roadrunners.
 
The Monarchs are led offensively by Carla Morich, who has netted five goals and is tied for a team-high five assists this season for Old Dominion. Megan Watts ranks second on the team with four goals scored, while Yuliia Khrystiuk, Emily Garrick, Morgan Hall, and Gry Boe Thrysoe round out Old Dominions multi-goal scorers with two goals each. Cami Johnstone has also tied for a team-high five assists, while also tallying a goal for the Monarchs during the 2021 campaign.
 
2021 Goalkeeper of the Year Kasey Perry has led the Monarchs in net, posting an 8-3-1 record this season. Perry has played 1,153 minutes between the posts for Old Dominion, tallying 26 saves and posting seven clean sheets through 13 games.
 
Last Time Out
The Blue Raiders battled for 110 minutes against the Rice Owls before claiming a 4-3 win after a penalty shootout to advance to the C-USA semifinals for the first time since 2015.
 
Middle Tennessee battled to a scoreless half, but the Blue Raiders created more opportunities and controlled much of the opening 45 minutes, leading the Owls in shots 7-4, but Rice held a slight advantage for shots on goal, 4-3. Caroline Manley accounted for two of the Blue Raiders' shots on goal in the opening half, and Miya Lennon
 registered the third.
 
The Blue Raiders continued to pressure the Rice backline, outshooting the Owls 5-4 over the final 45 minutes of regulation. The Blue Raiders doubled up the Owls for on-target shots in the second half, 4-2. Junior Cambell Kivisito and Elizabeth Slavinksy tallied the Blue Raiders first two on-target attempts, while sophomore Hamlett and senior DePriest followed up with back-to-back opportunities in the 78th minute, but Killgore saved them both. Suder saved one final Owl attempt in the 84th minute before the game would be sent into overtime.
 
In the penalty shootout, the Rice Owls led by as much as 2-0, but the Blue Raiders came back to score four straight penalty kicks from juniors Elizabeth Slavinsky and Hannah Suder and freshmen Kirstine Lykke and Alayna Lynchard punch their ticket to the C-USA Championship semifinals.

Series History
The C-USA Championship semifinal matchup on Friday marks the sixth all-time meeting between Middle Tennessee and ODU. The Monarchs lead the all-time series between the two programs 2-1-2. In their last matchup, the Monarchs earned a 2-0 shutout win over the Blue Raiders in Murfreesboro on Sept. 24, 2021. Friday's meeting will mark the first neutral site matchup between the two programs.
 
Up Next
With a win on Friday, the Blue Raiders will advance to the C-USA Championship match to take on the winner of No. 1 Southern Miss vs. No. 3 UAB on Sunday, November 7 for a 12 p.m. CT kickoff at FAU Soccer Stadium.
