Historian Lincoln Cushing will talk about life on the WWII Home Front Fri., Nov. 5 from 12-1 p.m. during a free online Zoom event entitled “The Resounding Legacy of the WWII Home Front.”

The event is the first in a series of monthly “Rosie Presents” events hosted by Rosie the Riveter Trust, the nonprofit partner of the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond.

Cushing, who has authored multiple books on 20th century social justice posters, and whose uncle worked as a steamfitter in the WWII Kaiser Richmond shipyards, will give a slideshow presentation highlighting the “American civilian experience” during World War II and its transformative impact on “the labor movement, race and gender relations, and health care,” per the Trust.

The historian, who also served as Kaiser Permanente’s historian and archivist for a decade, will discuss this period of American history “through the lens of the Kaiser shipyards in Richmond,” said the Trust, and will follow it up with a Q&A session.

During his time with Kaiser Permanente, Cushing posted various articles on its website about the Kaiser shipyards, including “The Amazing True Story of Park Ranger Betty Reid Soskin.” Read it here.

As for “The Resounding Legacy of the WWII Home Front,” Zoom event, participants can register for it in advance here. Learn more about the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park here.
