Husband also injured, crash remains under investigation
A Stanwood woman was killed, and her husband injured, in a motorcycle accident after attempting to avoid a deer in the road.
Getty ImagesWHEATLAND TOWNSHIP — A Stanwood woman was killed, and her husband injured, in a motorcycle accident after attempting to avoid a deer in the road.
At around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Mecosta County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a one-vehicle motorcycle accident, according to a news release from the department.
Through authorities investigation, it found that a 51-year-old Stanwood man and his 46-year-old wife, also from Stanwood ,were traveling westbound on 9 Mile Road near 50th Avenue in Wheatland Township when a deer ran out in front the couple riding their motorcycle.
The collision with the deer caused the man to lose control of his motorcycle and both driver and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.
The man was transported to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital with minor injuries, and the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The names are being withheld while the accident is being investigated.
The Mecosta County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Wheatland fire/rescue, Mecosta County EMS, Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Mecosta County Accident investigation team, the Mecosta County Sheriff's Posse, and Curries towing.
