A firefighter died while working the Gales Fire within the Middle Fork Complex, just north of Oakridge, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. Officials said the firefighter was killed in an accident.

The sheriff’s office and partners from several other agencies are investigating what happened. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
The sheriff’s office is also working to notify the victim’s family. Additional details will be released as officials learn more.
The Middle Fork Complex was reported on July 29. As of Monday it was 15,615 acres and 10% contained.
