Broadcaster Pierre McGuire to join Senators' front office - The Athletic

worldinmiddleeast.blogspot.com

What does he bring to the front office?

Ian Mendes, Senators beat writer: The Senators have been lacking a senior voice in their hockey operations department since Bryan Murray died in 2017.

Murray served as a senior adviser to general manager Pierre Dorion and the feeling is McGuire will be able to fill some of that void. Spending the past two decades as a broadcaster has allowed McGuire to analyze most NHL teams from ice level, so his knowledge of current players should be relevant.

The Senators are hoping to capitalize on McGuire's relationships with league executives, players and agents.

Dorion is also heading into the last year of his contract as general manager of the club. If there are any issues in the months ahead, it stands to reason that McGuire could be waiting in the wings as a possible in-house replacement.

What can we expect from him in his new role?

Mendes: McGuire is going to be heavily involved in the decision-making process, as he told TSN 1200 on Monday that he's planning to move to Ottawa so he can be inside the Senators front office on a daily basis. He will essentially serve as Dorion's right-hand man, giving input on the professional scouting side of things.

We should also expect the Senators to use McGuire in a media capacity, as his broadcasting experience makes him a natural spokesperson for the organization.
