Indonesia has made great strides toward becoming a middle-class country. Just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, it graduated to the upper-middle-income country status. However, even before the Covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia faced complex challenges in creating “middle-class jobs,” that is, good quality jobs that allow an average Indonesian family to afford a middle-class life.
To break the current pathway of low-quality jobs, Indonesia will need a structural transformation 3.0 that aims to increase firm productivity and support the labor force to drive this change. The World Bank report will provide analysis and three pathways to create more middle-class jobs in Indonesia.
This report launch event is co-hosted by Forum Kebijakan Ketenagakerjaan (FKK).
