Blue Heron Middle School principal finalists to meet public - Peninsula Daily News

PORT TOWNSEND — The finalists for the position of Blue Heron Middle School principal will interact with the public in an online meet-and-greet at 5 p.m. today.

“Interviews are still going on,” said Sarah Rubenstein, Port Townsend School District communications director, on Friday.

She added that the hopefuls’ names won’t be disclosed until shortly before the meeting.

The link to the online session can be found at PTschools.org, and all community members, families, students and school staff are invited.

Linda Rosenbury, the incoming superintendent, will facilitate, while the finalists give brief talks and answer questions.

There will be two or three candidates at the meeting, Rubenstein said, adding the district intends to hire a new Blue Heron principal by early July.

The job opening was posted less than two weeks ago after Theresa Campbell, principal of Blue Heron and the OCEAN program for the past three years, announced she is taking a job with the Everett School District.

The middle school principal supervises about 21 certificated teachers and 15 classified staff working with about 239 sixth- through eighth-graders. The annual salary range for the job is $116,000 to $131,000.

Rubenstein, who has worked for the district for eight years, is stepping into a new role as OCEAN principal and program administrator for the Port Townsend School District’s new online learning program.

OCEAN (Opportunity, Community, Experience, Academics, Navigation) is a well-established kindergarten through 12th-grade school combining independent study with in-person support.

At the same time, the district is adding an all-online program for first- through 12th-graders who want to stay all-remote, Rubenstein said.

For information about these programs and to see the school calendar, visit PTschools.org or phone the district office at 360-379-4501.
