Tops Head to Middle Tennessee for Pair of Road Games - WKU Athletics

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — WKU Hilltopper Basketball enters another rivalry series this weekend at Middle Tennessee, starting at 4 p.m. CT Saturday in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The opening game will air on ESPN+, followed by the finale at 1 p.m. CT Sunday on CBS Sports Network.
 
The Hilltoppers are coming off a home-and-home sweep last week of fellow division rival Marshall.
 
WKU is 95-43 all-time against the Blue Raiders in the series that dates back to 1914-15. The Hilltoppers have won the last two meetings. WKU head coach Rick Stansbury is 2-4 in his career against Middle Tennessee.

• WKU's 11-4 start is its best through 15 games since the 2006-07 season.

• WKU is 5-0 in games decided by three points or less this season. 11 of the Hilltoppers' 15 games have been decided by six points or less.
 
• WKU has five top-110 NET wins so far this season over Alabama (11), Rhode Island (66), Marshall twice (86) and Memphis (110). Two of its losses came vs. West Virginia (22) on a neutral court and at Louisville (43). The Hilltoppers' NET non-conference strength of schedule is ranked 21st in the nation.
 
• On Monday, Charles Bassey was named Lute Olson National Player of the Week and C-USA Player of the Week for the fifth time in eight weeks. On Tuesday, Andy Katz placed Bassey at No. 10 on his list of Midseason Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year Candidates.
 
• As of Wednesday, Charles Bassey leads the nation in total rebounds (169), total blocks (46) and dunks (37). He's also ranked second in double-doubles (9), third in rebounds per game (12.1) and defensive rebounds per game (8.6), and fourth in blocks per game (3.3). Only 80 programs in the nation have more blocks as a team than Bassey by himself.
 
• After making 8 of 29 3-pointers (27.6%) in WKU's first five games, Luke Frampton has made 22 of 43 long-range shots (51.2%) in the Hilltoppers' last 10 games.
 
LAST GAME AGAINST MIDDLE TENNESSEE: JANUARY 11, 2020

WKU bounced back in convincing fashion, rolling past rival Middle Tennessee for a 69-53 road win.

The Hilltoppers locked down on the defensive end, holding Middle Tennessee to 35.8 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range.

WKU also forced 18 turnovers, turning them into 25 points on the other end.

WKU got a game-high 18 points from junior guard Taveion Hollingsworth, as well as 15 points from junior guard Josh Anderson and 14 points from redshirt junior forward Carson Williams.

Redshirt freshman guard Jeremiah Gambrell had career highs of seven points and six rebounds in 19 minutes.
