Jr." The special video performance will be available On Demand via Showtix4u.com. beginning on Friday. For a fee of $20 viewers will get to watch the performance as many times as they like on one device for a two-day period.

The upcoming performance is directed by Spotswood High School English teacher Dominic Sposato. Memorial Middle School Band Director Christina Restine is the show's musical director. Brittany Cohen, a former Memorial Middle School student, serves as the show's choreographer. The musical stars, Memorial Middle School students Jennifer Capran, Rosie Caron, Mandy Conrad, Christopher Cruz, Julie Hilse, Madison Iocono, Emily Judah, Andrew Kim, Ryan Legakis, Jess Motard, Aaliyah Napier, Brandon Rivera, Colin Shornock, and Sammi Zeron.

What makes this production particularly special is that it was not born from traditional theatrical rehearsal. All the rehearsals and the actual production were conducted virtually. The traditional theatrical process like many things during the coronavirus pandemic needed to be remade. In addition, the original play required a bit of tweaking in order to fit today's new normal.

Sposato, Restine, and Cohen have teacher Tom Mizer feeling anxious about a first day of virtual learning instead of having first-day-of-school jitters.

"The Schoolhouse Rock kids appear in his Zoom meeting and proceed to show him how to win his students over with imagination and music," Sposato said in a recent press release about the upcoming virtual performance. "What you will experience when you stream our production is familiar songs from the late twentieth century brought to digital life in the way we have all experienced our social interactions currently in the 2020s."

With the performance rehearsals being conducted virtually, Sposato, Restine, and Cohen had to navigate many challenges and wear quite a few hats.

"Christina Restine, not only ran virtual music rehearsals, but also organized our Google Classroom and Flipgrid assignments, and edited our entire production together from hundreds of submitted recordings," Sposato continued.

Cohen conducted weekly dance rehearsals while helping cast members to make props from materials around their homes. Sposato ended up being more like a film director than a theater director as the cast needed to rehearse and then film scenes that showcased the speakings parts leading in to the popular Schoolhouse Rock songs many people grew up watching between Saturday morning cartoons.

To tune in viewers can rent the video using an access code for 48 hours from Friday, January 29 through Tuesday, February 2. Once purchased, the access code is good for the 48-hour period and can be watching numerous times on one device. Memorial's Drama Club performance of "Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr." can be rented on Showtix4u.com. The $20 cost includes service fees.

This production of "Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr." is presented by a special arrangement with NYC's Musical Theatre International. The hour-long show features music and lyrics from Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, George Newall, Kathy Mandry, Lynn Ahrens, and Tom Yohe. The show's book is written by George Keating, Kyle Hall, and Scott Ferguson.

"We owe a debt of gratitude to our cast and their parents who joined us for this crazy ride as we figuratively 'reinvented the wheel' to figure out how to give our Spotswood students and community a dramatic production while observing guidelines to keep everyone safe and healthy," Sposato added.
