A 28-year-old man was in serious condition after being stabbed multiple times in front of Richmond Police Department headquarters on Sunday following a child custody exchange, police said.
The incident unfolded at about 6:10 p.m., when a 26-year-old San Francisco man parked in front of the police department at 1701 Regatta Blvd. to deliver his daughter to her mother, police said.
After the exchange was complete and the child was safely in her mother’s car, an argument ensued. The 28-year-old stabbing victim, a Richmond man who was with the mother’s child, exited the vehicle to assist. As he approached the father, the father attacked him, stabbing him multiple times, police said.
“Police Department personnel heard the commotion in front of the police department and alerted officers, who quickly arrived at the scene, separated the individuals and began first aid treatment to the victim,” police said.
The suspect was quickly arrested, a knife was recovered from the scene and the victim was transported to a local trauma center in serious condition. He is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
The suspect, who hasn’t been identified due to the ongoing investigation, was arrested and booked for attempted murder.
