11-Year-Old Girl Goes Missing From Bedroom In Middle Of The Night - Patch.com

LOMA LINDA, CA — An 11-year-old girl disappeared from her Loma Linda bedroom in the middle of the night, triggering a frantic search for her safe return Sunday.

The family's ordeal began Sunday morning. With the full household still asleep, Leativa's mother headed out to the store to buy milk for a pancake breakfast when she looked up and saw that her daughter's second-story window screen had been torn out. She raced inside and found her daughter's bed empty. Her child's cut hair lay upon the mattress, said Christina Lutu-Sanchez, Leativa's aunt.

The family has no idea what happened to Leativa nor where she could be, said Lutu-Sanchez. They immediately called police and began handing out fliers around the community asking for help finding Leativa as a police helicopter searched overhead.

"Deputies have been searching for the young girl using patrol deputies, K9's and a Sheriff's helicopter," according to San Bernardino Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Cindy Bachman. "The information has been shared with all surrounding law enforcement agencies and A Child is Missing Alert has been activated. Deputies are contacting residents in the area, and flyers are being posted. At this time deputies have not located the young girl."

"She is a super quiet girl. She does all the chores because she is the only girl with four brothers. But she is a really happy child — very spoiled by her dad because she is the only girl," said Lutu-Sanchez. "They just moved here from Honolulu, and she doesn't know anyone here because the schools are closed. All her best friends are still in Hawaii."

Leativa's grandparents recently moved in with the family, and the family doesn't go out much because of the coronavirus, she added. The family moved to the area so Leativa's mother could attend medical school at Loma Linda University.

Leativa is described as about 5' 6" with short-cut brown hair. She was last seen Sunday between 3 and 5 a.m. Anyone with information about her whereabouts can call her family at 808-783-5552, 808-778-1040, or 808-799-2826.

"It was a house full of people in a quiet neighborhood. You just don't expect this," said Lutu-Sanchez. "We have had all sorts of things thrown at us this year including cancer. We have a huge network of family that is very supportive, but there is absolutely nothing that can prepare you for something like this."
