Houston ISD’s Henry Middle School closed Tuesday and moved classes online after learning of an unspecified number of COVID-19 cases, district officials said.
In a statement released late Tuesday afternoon, district officials confirmed the one-day shutdown of the north Houston campus. In-person classes will resume at Henry Middle on Wednesday.
Henry Middle has seen three confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff members since Friday, according to the district’s tracking dashboard. However, parents and staff members have complained that the dashboard is not always accurate.
HISD’s Raul Martinez Elementary School also closed Tuesday and will remain online-only Wednesday, district officials previously announced.
HISD resumed in-person classes in mid-October with a policy of closing campuses after learning of a single confirmed COVID-19 case. The district changed the threshold to two cases the following week.
In a message to parents last week, HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan said closure decisions would be made “on a case-by-case basis” in consultation with Houston Health Department officials. The district has not directly answered whether the case-by-case policy replaced the two-case policy.
