Shaun Livingston returns to Warriors in front-office role - San Francisco Chronicle

worldinmiddleeast.blogspot.com

Shaun Livingston is joining the Warriors as director of players affairs and engagement, a league source confirmed with The Chronicle.

The Athletic was first to report the news.

Livingston’s role was created specifically with him in mind, per the source. In the position, he will carry out a wide range of duties, many of which will deal with player activities away from the court.

Livingston, 35, will mentor players on their post-playing careers, help cater team programs toward player needs and act as a liaison between the roster and the front office. As The Chronicle reported in 2018, Livingston has long been interested in joining the Warriors’ front office.

After taking last season off to spend time with his family, Livingston began talking to general manager Bob Myers about the specifics of his front-office role. This is a position with plenty of upward mobility. The Warriors believe Livingston has a bright future, with the potential to oversee his own front office someday.

In June 2019, Livingston retired from a 15-year NBA career that spanned nine teams, including two stints with the Wizards. The No. 4 pick in the 2004 draft out of Peoria Central High School in Illinois, his career was nearly derailed by a gruesome knee injury in 2007, which required him to miss an entire season to recover.

After bouncing between a number of teams, Livingston started to find his NBA footing with the Nets. The following offseason, in July 2014, he signed a three-year, $16 million deal with the Warriors. In five seasons with Golden State, he was a key member of a second unit that was a driving force behind five straight Finals appearances and three NBA titles.

Along the way, Livingston developed a reputation for his calm demeanor and high basketball IQ. Though Steve Kerr has said Livingston would be a great coach, Livingston preferred to go the front-office route. As The Athletic reported, Livingston is now the highest ranking African American in the Warriors’ front office since Mitch Richmond served as director of player personnel in 2008.
