WCSO closes front business office for 14 days after employee tests positive for COVID-19 - Times Record News

The Wichita County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that a front-office employee had tested positive for COVID-19, and the front business office will be closed for 14 days at the Wichita County Courthouse.

This is the latest COVID-19 development for the WCSO, following an announcement last week that over 20 jail inmates had tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The WCSO consulted with the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District about the situation involving the employee, who has had direct contact with the front office administration staff, officials said in a media release.

The worker has not displayed any symptoms of COVID-19, officials said in the Monday afternoon media release.

All other staff members are being monitored, and upper-command staff members are working in isolated areas, officials said.

Other employees are coming in to do needed tasks during various hours to limit direct contact with other workers, officials said.

But employees with the patrol division, criminal investigation section, civil division, community service unit, records, identification, courthouse security, transport and jail are still working their regular hours, officials said.

On July 28, Sheriff David Duke held a press conference at the courthouse to announce that over 20 inmates and one former inmate of the Wichita County Detention Centers had tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The inmates who tested positive were housed at the Wichita County Jail Annex in the 2800 block of Central East Freeway — not in the jail in the courthouse, according to a previous Times Record News report.

The affected inmates were also male since the annex almost exclusively houses men.

The WCSO found out around mid-July that an inmate in the annex had tested positive for COVID-19, officials said. The 61-year-old man had been in custody for over a year.

After that inmate's second positive test the following week, the WCSO had all of the inmates housed in the same pod tested, as well as several others previously housed in the pod, officials said.

The Sheriff's Office took action and has been monitoring the situation, officials said.
