San Francisco 49ers: The Niners get good news on the injury front - Niners Nation

worldinmiddleeast.blogspot.com

The offseason wasn’t particularly kind to the San Francisco 49ers when it comes to the injury bug. The team lost presumptive No. 1 wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a Jones fracture, as well as receiver/returner Richie James to a broken wrist.

But, the Niners got some good news on the injury front now that the players have reported to Santa Clara for the beginning of training camp:

This is great news for the 49ers heading into the 2020 season. There are few names on the list that could be very valuable pieces in San Francisco’s quest for sixth Super Bowl title.

McKinnon signed a four-year, $30 million deal before the 2018 season, but unfortunately hasn’t seen the field once. He tore his ACL just before Week 1, and sat out the entire season. Then, prior to last season, it was revealed that Jet had suffered a setback, and would miss the entire year.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan hasn’t had a reliable pass catching running back since he signed on with the 49ers. McKinnon has reportedly looked great this summer in training, and if he can stay healthy, he will be a welcome addition to the Niners’ back field.

Receivers Jalen Hurd and Trent Taylor being healthy is a great sign for the offense as well. Hurd injured his back during the 2019 preseason, which forced him to miss his rookie campaign. The 24-year-old will be used in multiple positions if he’s on the field in 2020. Peter King of NBC Sports said Hurd looked amazing in last year’s training camp, and if he can play at a similar level this time around, look for Shanahan to maximize his skills during the season by lining him up all over the field.

Taylor had some serious issues dealing while recovering from his Jones fracture, which required five additional surgeries after the initial procedure. The shifty slot receiver will give quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo a reliable option underneath, and he could establish himself as one of the top 49ers’ pass catchers early in the year.

The other big name list on the name is D.J. Jones. The defensive tackle will have plenty of opportunity with the trade of All-Pro DeForest Buckner, and if he can stay on the field in 2020, he will have a big impact. Jones is a speed demon for a man of his size, and with yet another year of development under his belt, he has the tools to become a beast on the defensive line. The 25-year-old finished 2019 with two sacks, 23 tackles (four tackles for losses), and two QB hits.

I’m also expecting a big year from Jason Verrett, who looked phenomenal in his lone game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. Just kidding.
