Here we go again Minnesota. The Steamy Summer of 2020 is the weather gift that keeps on giving.
Minnesota enjoyed a respite from this summer’s heat Wednesday. I wrote about our free AC from a favorable wind trajectory across Lake Superior earlier.
Get ready for another free, steamy tropical vacation this weekend.
Tropical air mass transition
Our breezes turn southerly again Thursday. That will pump more heat, and humidity into Minnesota through the upcoming weekend. The steamy tropical air masses of July are never too far away from Minnesota in mid-summer.
Dew points hover in the comfortable 50s across Minnesota Thursday morning. Then watch how winds shift into the south and pump pulses of higher dew point air into north the next few days. By Saturday, we’ll be sweating with dew points again near 80 degrees again.
Heat, too
Highs reach the lower 80s south and 70s north Thursday. But July heat kicks in by Friday afternoon. Highs push into the 90s across a good chunk of Minnesota from Friday through Sunday.
Heat index values could push close to 100 degrees again Saturday afternoon cross southern Minnesota. It may feel more like 100-plus across eastern South Dakota.
More nocturnal storms?
Our inbound tropical air mass features more thunderstorm chances. Some of those may come again at night this weekend.
