Juaquin Martinez of Acacia Middle School and Ciara Green of Diamond Valley Middle School were recently named Male Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year for Hemet middle schools.
Juaquin participates in flag football, basketball and track. Ciara’s sports are volleyball, basketball, soccer and track. Both received trophies sponsored by the Hemet Sportman’s Club.
Another trophy went to Dartmouth Middle School in Hemet, first winner of the Diamond Valley League’s perpetual trophy for middle school sports school of the year, according to a news release from Jim Wiesen, Hemet district athletic director and league coordinator.
In the league, which includes schools in the Hemet and San Jacinto school districts, Dartmouth won the boys’ and girls’ cross country meet and flag football and placed second in girls’ volleyball and boys’ soccer. Diamond Valley Middle School came in second in the league.
Other schools participating were Acacia and Rancho Viejo from Hemet and Monte Vista and North Mountain from the San Jacinto district.
The league’s middle school sports are cross country, flag football and girls’ volleyball in the fall; boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer in the winter; and track, boys’ volleyball, girls’ soccer and competition cheer in the spring.
This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the schools did not compete in spring sports.
