SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Since many programs and plans have been canceled this summer, Scotch Plains-Fanwood students may be missing out on experiences that they were looking forward to, including music instruction.
During the month of July, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School rising senior Will Schetelich is offering middle school aged students the opportunity to meet for small group jazz classes in his driveway. Will has been involved in the SPFHS music program in Marching Band, Moonglowers, and the pit orchestra. Classes will be free of charge, and will focus on reading chords and improvisation.
"I plan to study jazz and music education in college, and as a future teacher this will be a great opportunity to practice and also serve the community," Will said.
Students entering Grades 5 through 9 are invited to attend. Hour-long classes will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Time slots will be assigned based on interest (grade and instrument). Classes will start the week of Monday, July 6th. There will be a maximum of 8 students per class.
