A man was arrested Saturday night following a burglary at a Visalia middle school, police said.
Around 7 p.m. officers responded to Divisadero Middle School after the alarm was tripped. When officers arrived, they spotted Maxxanaya Hughie, 22, leaving the multi-purpose building on campus.
Hughie allegedly broke into the building, police said. It's unclear what items Hughie tried to take from the school.
Hughie was arrested and booked into Tulare County Pretrial Facility on suspicion of commercial burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and violating his probation.
Hughie has a long history of drug and property crime offenses, according to court records. His bail is set at $60,000.
He is expected back in court on Tuesday.
Divisadero's campus, like all Visalia Unified schools, is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Anyone with information on the investigation or who notices suspicious activity can call Visalia Police Department at 734-8117.
