A 37-year-old mother was killed in North Nashville early Sunday morning after an unknown person shot into the GMC Yukon she was riding in, according to Metro Nashville Police.
Debbie Boone was in the passenger seat when someone in a dark colored car shot into the Yukon just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of Clarksville Pike and 26th Avenue North, an MNPD news release states.
Boone was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The driver of the Yukon and Boone's 14-year-old daughter, who was also a passenger, were not injured.
Police are working to determine who fired into the Yukon and why.
Earlier Sunday morning, Boone and her daughter had walked to the Kwik-Sak Market at Clarksville Pike and South Hamilton Road from their apartment at Cumberland View, police said. As they left the market, Boone recognized the woman driving the Yukon as a member of their community. She asked for a ride home, and the driver agreed.
The shooting occurred a short drive away.
