The National Weather Service also issued a tornado watch for Middle Tennessee shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday. Davidson, Cheatham, Maury, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson counties were included in the watch.

A series of severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued throughout the Midstate.

A severe thunderstorm warning for north central Marshall, west central Rutherford, northeastern Maury and southeastern Williamson counties was canceled at 12:10 a.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning was canceled around 11:30 p.m. for Davidson County, eastern Dickson County, southwestern Sumner County, Cheatham County and southeastern Robertson County.

Robertson and northwestern Cheathamcounties were under a severe thunderstorm warning until 11:30 p.m.

Other counties included in the tornado watch until 4 a.m. were Bedford, Cannon, Clay, Coffee, DeKalb, Giles, Hickman, Jackson, Lawrence, Lewis, Macon, Marshall, Putnam, Smith, Trousdale, Warren and Wayne.

Humphreys and Montgomery counties are under a tornado watch until 2 a.m.

The weather service recommends residents have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

Storms were predicted to arrive in Davidson County between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Parts of Dickson and Humphreys counties had been under a tornado warning earlier in the night, but the alert was canceled around 10:45 p.m.

Strong storms are possible in Middle Tennessee overnight as a weather system is expected to move through overnight late Saturday into early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Nashville office.

Damaging winds and hail are the main threats, but isolated tornadoes can’t be ruled out, meteorologist Matt Reagan said.

The line of potentially strong storms is anticipated to arrive between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to the latest projections, Reagan said.

Isolated showers could begin earlier on Saturday evening, Reagan said.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect in northwestern Montgomery and northeastern Stewart counties until 7:45 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm was located over Big Rock moving northeast at 50 mph at 7:25 p.m. Golf-ball sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts were possible. Locations affected included Dover, Big Rock and Indian Mound.
