Middle school students do well in statewide contest - Juneau Empire

Floyd Dryden Middle School’s sixth-grade team made it to the third round and placed second statewide in the Feb. 26 Battle of the Books competition.

Twelve teams battled for the honor of being in Round 2 and four teams made it to Round 3. If a team made it to all three rounds, they ended up competing for six hours.

Students Della Mearig, Anberlin Tingey, Miranda Stichert and Amelia Walker and coach Rachelle Grossardt were part of the second-place team, and they trailed first place by only two questions.

Battle students start reading over the summer and begin weekly practices in September. This year over 60 middle school students read and got ready for the Battle of the Books.
