Soda tax would be goodfor obese SJ students
Like other Bay Area cities, San Jose should implement a soda tax. A soda tax would discourage consumers from buying soda, and the tax money gained would be used for nutrition education programs.
The nutrition education programs could focus on educating the public about how sugar affects the body and how sugar contributes to obesity.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 25% of students in middle schools and high schools are obese or overweight in San Jose.
This percentage is likely rising due to the lack of nutrition education students and their parents receive. Obesity particularly affects Hispanic adults and children in San Jose and should be the target population for nutrition education.Dominique ScottSan Jose
