College readiness tips for parents of middle schoolers - - KUSI

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – e3 Civic High, the public charter school located in the San Diego Central Library, is hosting a free forum for parents and students in middle school.

Dr. Cheryl Ward, Chief Executive Officer at e3 Civic High College and Counselor Angelica Colon say now is the time to help prepare your sixth grader for a success in college admissions.

The whole point of starting early is to make the college admissions process less intimidating and less stressful. If young people know what’s expected, they can break down tasks into small, digestible bits. This should make the process easier, not harder.

Four tips:

1. Create a “college-going” culture at home

2. Find your passion through extracurricular activities

3. Strategic course selection in middle school

4. Preparing to finance college
