Two eighth grade girls were arrested after a fight broke out during their early middle school dismissal on Thursday afternoon, Superintendent of Schools Alan Cron said in a press release.
The fight reportedly began around 12:30 p.m. at John W. Rogers Middle School where Cron said many staff and the Rockland Police school resource officer tried to intervene in accordance with the school district’s protocols when it comes to “student-on-student violence.”
While trying to break up the brawl, Cron said Rogers Middle School Principal Beth Bohn was allegedly pushed by one of the girls.
Bohn was reportedly not injured, but additional Rockland police were called to the scene as the fight continued.
After an initial investigation, police arrested the two students.
“The school district will conduct its own investigation and will likely issue disciplinary measures consistent with its student handbook,” Cron wrote in the release.
Cron said no weapons were involved and he’s thankful to faculty, staff, and the Rockland police who followed the district’s procedures and responded quickly.
