SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - A Piner Middle school employee was arrested Wednesday for allegedly bringing an unloaded gun onto school grounds.
According to Sherman Police, James Robert-Austin Wilson was arrested around 10:15 a.m. after he brought a backpack on campus carrying an unloaded firearm.
Wilson was booked into the Grayson County Jail on a charge of Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
Wilson, a teacher's aide at Piner Middle School, was placed on leave and will not be allowed on school grounds during an investigation by Sherman police.
Sherman Independent School District officials say the firearm was not removed from the backpack and that no students were involved. They say school staff responded immediately to maintain a "safe and secure learning environment."
Firearms and other weapons are not allowed in any Sherman ISD building.
Parents and staff were notified of the incident, district officials said.
