Lundsten wins Discovery Middle School Geography Bee - Echo Press

A Discovery Middle School student has an opportunity to go to the State Geography Bee after taking top place at his school's geography bee on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Carter Lundsten will take an online test to try to qualify for the state contest. The top 100 test scorers will compete at the state level.

Joaquim Ramos took second place at Discovery and Andrew Crowser took third. They were among eight Discovery students who qualified to compete at the school level, based on a preliminary test given to students in grades 6-8. The others who competed were Ethan Hunt, Madeline Boe, Brogan Engfer, Evan Moore and Levi Woody.

Students had to answer questions such as, "In 2017, the city of Beirut hosted the International Basketball Federation Asia Cup in what small Mediterranean country?" (Answer: Lebanon)

The winners of the State Geography Bees receive a trip to National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington D.C., this May to participate in the national championship, competing for cash prizes, scholarships and an expedition to the Galapagos Islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavour II.
