Bradenton’s Lee Middle dazzles at Step & Stroll Competition in Tampa - Sarasota Herald-Tribune

Well done to Lee Middle School’s Step Team, Lambda Mu Sigma Sigma Tau, which wowed the crowd and was honored as the only middle school squad at The Stompdown Experience ’20 National Step & Stroll Competition at Tampa’s Middleton High School.

The event was part of the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival.

The Lee Middle Step Team members are Daimyah Ayers, Patience Davis, Caliyah Drummond, Indira Drummond, Darcey Ductan, Shayna Ellis, Shanoi Ffrench, Desiree Flores, Tiyauna Gabriel, Destiny Gaither, Angelina Huet, Charlieza McGee, Abigail Perdomo, Daniya Thomas, Anthony Villa, Giana Villa, Leylani Villa and Ja’Lonia Williams.

The coaches are Lee Middle science teacher Tamiya McClern, Oneco Elementary math coach Yovonda Holmes-Shepherd, Lee Middle teacher assistant Ariana Kelly, and Lee Middle student support specialist Keenan Wooten.

• Emergency Room Nurse Jeanne Haluska just observed 39 years at Blake Medical Center.

• The honor of singing the national anthem on Opening Day for Pirates Spring Training goes to Tommy Jomisko, choral director at Manatee High. It happens Feb. 22 at LECOM Park when the Twins come to B’town. This will be the sixth time Tommy’s done it and his second on Opening Day.

• That’s 37 years of wedded bliss for Gina and Dave Tuttle.

• Big ups to Saint Stephen’s Middle School Director Joel Erby. He just earned his doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of Southern California. Erby, who has been with Saint Stephen’s three years, will walk in USC’s graduation ceremony May 13 in Los Angeles.

• Jade Parrish had the Grand Champion Swine and Chloe Flournoy had the Reserve Champion Swine at the 2020 Manatee County Fair.

• Manny Ameres, patriarch of the Popi’s restaurant empire, is 39. Again!

• So is Laurel Lynch, the chief executive officer of Hope Family Services.

• And Amy Podobnik, the real brains behind Team Podobnik.

• The Manatee Technical College Law Enforcement Academy honored four exceptional recruits among 17 being recognized for their completion of the academy.

Angel Velazquez was honored for his skills as class leader. Enzo Rovira earned the Top Gun award for having the best firearms skills. Assistant class leader Sherry Nichols earned the award for the best driving skills. And Caleb Baker earned the highest academic achievement award.

Their classmates are Tyler Bond, Jesse Combs, Adam Finlayson, Hugo Garcia, Kevin Martin, Edwards Nieves, Micah Osornio, Robert Pereyra Jr., Miguel Rodriguez, Matthew Verycken, Jaimie Welch, Keith Whitfield and Tyler Williford.

Palmetto Police Chief Scott Tyler was the keynote speaker. Academy director Jay Romine was master of ceremonies.
