The boys and girls basketball teams from Bates Middle School will be the No. 1 seeds in the Sumter Middle School Conference tournaments after closing out their conference regular seasons on Thursday with undefeated marks.
Bates played host to longtime rival Alice Drive on Thursday, and both teams came away with convincing wins to finish 14-0 in conference games.
The Lady Bantams, who are 16-1 on the season, won 31-17. Dalashia Brunson led them with 13 points. Kharya Reed added seven and Keziyah Sanders had six.
The Bates boys came away with a 49-32 triumph. Antione Bracey led the Bantams with 20 points, while Caleb Jenkins added 13. Josiah Burson, Jeremiah Burson and Ja'Vion Lammie had five points apiece.
The conference tournaments begin on Monday with the girls semifinal contests. The boys semifinal games will be on Tuesday. Each of the games will start at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Bantams will play host to No. 4 seed and 7-7 Chesntut Oaks, while No. 2 seed R.E. Davis (11-3) will play host to No. 3 and 10-4 Hillcrest.
The boys semifinals will have Bates playing host to No. 4 seed and 7-7 Manning Junior High, while second-seeded Ebenezer (11-3) will be at home against 9-5 No. 3 seed Alice Drive.
The championship games will be played on Saturday at Crestwood High School's The Castle. The girls game is set for a noon start followed by the boys contest.
