Egypt will hold its presidential elections between March 26 and 28 this year, the election commission announced Monday.
First round results will be announced on April 2, and a runoff election will take place April 24-26, if needed.
A day earlier, former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq announced that he would not be running for president in the country's 2018 elections, reversing a former promise to challenge the country's general-turned-president Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, who is widely expected to win.
Sissi was Egypt's army chief when he toppled the country's first freely elected civilian president, Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, in July 2013.
