Middle Tennessee Softball falls 7-5 to Tennessee Tech - GoBlueRaiders.com

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders dropped a tough outcome on Sunday, falling 7-5 against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles to close out the weekend.
 
Junior Kelci Hill led the way for the Blue Raiders, going 3-for-5 and knocking in two RBIs, while also scoring a pair of runs herself on the day. Freshman Laura Mealer hit 2-for-5 in the contest, tallying an RBI and a run. Freshman Claire Czajkowski went 2-for-4 and recorded an RBI, while senior Mia Marinakis hit 1-for-4 and knocked across an RBI in the contest.
 
Senior Corrina Dodd started in the circle for the Blue Raiders, pitching four innings. Dodd put down four batters but walked two and allowed five runs on seven hits. Senior Gretchen Mead put in four innings of work, striking out one Golden Eagle, and allowing a pair of runs on four hits. Freshman Keri Munn closed out the game for Middle Tennessee, pitching two innings and striking out three Golden Eagles and walking one on the day.
 
Tennessee Tech got things started in the first putting a run across in the top of the first to lead 1-0.
 
In the third, Sargent reached first on a walk. After stealing second, freshman Anyce Harvey moved sophomore Shelby Sargent to third on a two-out single. Harvey stole second before Hill knocked a huge two-out two RBI double down the left-field line to plate Sargent and Harvey and give the Blue Raiders on top 2-1 heading to the fourth.
 
The Golden Eagles retook the lead in the top of the fourth, as they tacked on four runs to lead the Blue Raiders 5-2.
 
Middle Tennessee got one back in the bottom of the fourth as Mealer connected on a lead-off single and stole second before Czajkowski knocked a two-out RBI single to center field to bring Mealer home from second to bring the deficit back down to two, 5-3.
 
Tennessee Tech kicked their lead back out to three in the top of the sixth, 6-3.
 
The Blue Raiders responded in the bottom of the frame to keep the game within two. Hill led things off with a bunt. Hill reached second off a sacrifice pop out, before Marinakis hit a one-out double to plate Hill and bring MT back within two, 6-4.
 
The Golden Eagles tacked on another run in the eighth to once again extend their lead to three, 7-4.
 
Hill got things started in the 10th with a one-out double to right field. Mealer connected on a two-out single to center field to bring across hill, but it just wasn't enough as the Blue Raiders eventually fell in the 7-5 contest.
