The Mount Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) responded to a report of smoke at Mt. Pleasant Middle School on Oct. 6 at 8:36 a.m.
Upon arrival, police and fire personnel immediately detected a small fire in a second story restroom,
and extinguished the flames with fire extinguishers. The south section of the second story hallway and restroom sustained light to moderate smoke damage.
All staff and students were safely evacuated and dismissed for the day so clean-up can be completed.
No injuries were sustained to students, faculty, staff or first responders.
Mt. Pleasant Middle School students will not be returning to school until Monday but the staff will still be working during the time the kids are away.
The MPFD was assisted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and Central Dispatch.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
