Portland’s warmest temperatures Monday will likely occur well before most people get out of bed. A cold front moving through the region will keep high temperatures in the mid 60s, where they already were by 6 a.m. for a portion of the metro area.
The National Weather Service says afternoon temperatures may struggle to get out of the high 50s in some areas. Rain and breezy winds will continue through much of the day. The high at the Portland International Airport should reach about 64.
Along with the rain and wind, the Portland area may have some isolated thunderstorms after about 11 a.m. Any thunderstorm activity may increase rain rates and could include gusty winds.
Showers will continue overnight and into Tuesday. Thunderstorms will be possible again, but should be fewer and more isolated than they were Monday. Some clearing is likely by the afternoon. The high will be about 61 degrees.
The cold front will also bring lowering snow levels late Tuesday. Snowfall is possible around the 5,500-foot range. The highest mountain passes may see some snowfall especially overnight. No significant accumulation is expected on the highways.
Total rainfall amounts with this system will be impressive. The valleys could see up to about an inch, the coast will get 1-1.5 inches and higher hills could see up to around 2 inches through Tuesday night.
Wednesday will offer a break in the rain. Skies will be partly sunny, and the high temperature will climb to about 65 degrees.
Longer-range forecasts show rain returning Thursday, but some clearing Friday. Temperatures will remain in the mid 60s.
