Matthew in the Middle | Total Recalled - Eureka Times-Standard

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, we will be voting whether to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom. This is a simple thumbs up or thumbs down vote on Gov. Newsom. Should Gov. GQ get 50%+1 of the vote, he stays in office and there is no recall. However, if Gov. GQ gets less than 50% of the vote, then he’s out as our governor. The second question on the ballot, which would only apply if the majority of people voted “Yes” to recall, is which one candidate would you pick to replace Gov. Newsom? If you’re a Vote By Mail voter, then your ballot will be mailed from the Elections Office by Aug. 16. That’s coming up real soon. I’m voting “No” on the recall. However, I’m writing in “Rex Bohn” just in case ‘cuz he gets things done, Rona and all.

Don’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what this dissatisfaction with Gov. Newsom is really about. The highest gas prices in the nation. Some of the highest state income tax and sales tax in the nation. Over-regulation. CEQA. California Coastal Commission. Homeless everywhere with human feces and used needles on our streets. Abolishing sanctuary cities. ICE at our county jails shipping illegal immigrants back where they belong. Making sure there’s no “rigged” or “stolen” elections (only if we lose) by doing another four-month forensic audit looking for bamboo in the ballots along with the Italian satellite laser rays that changed the 2020 vote tally, but only at the top of the ticket. No wait, maybe it was Iran, no it was the China lasers that rigged the 2020 elections. Because we value the sanctity of life, there will be no COVID vaccine mandates, passports and no masks. However, we’re gonna force medical treatment on the homeless, mentally ill, drug addicts and COVIDiots. People should have the individual freedom to choose what to do with their own bodies. Unless you’re pregnant, then you have no choice. Red meat for the conservative base.

Just like California Gov. Gray Davis’ recall back in 2003, should the voters recall Governor GQ, there are a multitude of people running for this office. Back in 2003 there were 134 candidates running in the special election, including a porn star, dwarf actor and Hustler’s Larry Flynt. What the Republicans don’t have this go around is a huuuge magnetic personality like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Remember when the Terminator became the Governator?
Today we have an odd assortment of 46 (24 Republicans, nine Democrats, 10 No Party Preference, two Green Party and one Libertarian) has-beens and never-beens such as conservative talk show radio host Larry Elder; former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; Assemblyman Kevin Kiley of Rockland; and businessman John Cox. Not to be outdone on the crazy train, Los Angeles billboard star Angelyne is in the race, along with YouTuber Kevin Paffrath, a cannabis activist, a New Age shaman and former Olympic gold medal-winner turned television reality star Caitlin Jenner. Don’t worry, Caitlin is taking this race seriously as she’s taking a break from the campaign trail to shoot the reality TV show “Big Brother VIP” in Australia.

Reading this list, I had a serious laugh. I mean, nobody would actually vote a reality TV star to an elected office, right? I know it sounds crazy, but many people vote for TV stars, not just Schwarzenegger, but also Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, SNL’s Al Franken, WWF wrestler Jesse Ventura, and that dude who did TV’s “The Apprentice,” although I forget his name. Heck, it was just announced that Jane Fonda considered a run, because Gov. Newsom wasn’t being progressive enough with climate change.

Four of the 46 recall candidates had a debate this past Wednesday night where we heard sage wisdom from Kevin Kiley, “This used to be the state where anyone could get ahead. Now it’s the state that many can’t wait to leave behind and our soaring housing costs are central to that.” Bet ya didn’t know the California governor controls our real estate prices. Not to be outdone, John Cox endorsed eliminating the state’s minimum wage. “The real, true minimum wage … should be zero. It should be set between the employer and the employee.” I can’t make this stuff up.

Speaking of governors, can we please back off the criticism of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo? He’s a good Democrat, just like Bill Clinton, Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer. It was an honest mistake that Cuomo thought “harass” was two words.
