DeKalb teacher accused of setting fire to main office of middle school - WSB Atlanta

Police have arrested a DeKalb County teacher accused of setting fire to a middle school building.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s office sent Channel 2′s Michael Seiden the mugshot for Antonio Bailey, 23. He is a teacher at Chapel Hill Middle School.

Bailey is accused of starting a fire overnight Thursday inside the school’s main office in Decatur. He’s also accused of firing a gun.

On Thursday, Channel 2 Action News was the only station there as officers from the DeKalb County School District’s Department of Public Safety and the DeKalb County Police Department attempted to arrest the suspect at his apartment, but no one was home.

TRENDING STORIES:

Bailey is facing charges of arson, criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony.

Channel 2 Action News contacted the school district for comment. A spokesperson confirmed the charges but didn’t make a statement about his future.

“DCSD Police conducted a criminal investigation into the gunfire and Arson at Chapel Hill Middle. The investigation revealed evidence to secure a criminal arrest warrant for Mr. Antonio Bailey for the charges of arson in the first degree, criminal damage to property in the second degree, and possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony.”

Bailey has since bonded out of jail.
