It’s been a season of major transition for the Rockies, especially with the departure of three key figures from the front office, but team president Greg Feasel said the franchise is in good hands.
“Yes, there has been change, but we feel good about how we are moving forward,” Feasel said Wednesday after a news conference at Coors Field to unveil plans for next week’s All-Star Game.
General manager Jeff Bridich resigned on April 26. Longtime scouting director Bill Schmidt was named interim GM on May 3, the same day that Feasel was promoted from vice president of business operations to club president. Last month, Zach Wilson, the assistant GM of player development, resigned and assistant farm director Chris Forbes assumed Wilson’s duties.
Earlier in June, assistant general manager Jon Weil left the club by mutual consent.
Feasel declined to talk about why Wilson and Weil left the organization. He also reiterated that he’s confident that the current front office is capable of handling its wide array of duties.
Still, there is a lot on the Rockies’ plate. In addition to hosting the All-Star Game, the annual amateur draft starts Sunday. Plus, the July 30 trade deadline is looming and the Rockies are facing some major decisions, chief among them the decision on whether or not to trade star shortstop Trevor Story.
Schmidt said he wants to be considered for the job as the Rockies’ permanent GM. Feasel reiterated that the Rockies plan to begin their search for a GM after the season. Asked if Schmidt will be given consideration for the post, Feasel said: “Absolutely. I think Billy, and everyone else, has done a great job during this transition period.”
Health update. Injured Rockies’ starter Austin Gomber (left forearm tightness) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday. Manager Bud Black said Gomber “felt fine.” He has not pitched in a game since June 19.
The Rockies plan to advance Gomber’s workload during their upcoming road series at the Padres. Gomber is 6-5 over 15 starts with a 3.68 ERA this season.
“We’ll probably create some sort of simulated game early in the afternoon in San Diego,” Black said. “He’ll face some of our hitters, I believe it’s on Saturday, and from there we’ll make a determination whether he’ll go out on a rehab assignment. It’s not unlike what we did with Jon Gray. That’s probably where we’re headed.”
Derby additions. Two more MLB players — Joey Gallo (Rangers) and Juan Soto (Nationals) — accepted invitations on Wednesday for the Home Run Derby to round out the field of eight competitors.
Gallo has been on a power surge lately with 10 home runs over his past 10 games. Soto has 79 career homers over four big-league seasons. The derby takes place on Monday at Coors Field.

Gonzalez is among the Rockies’ worst offenders in home/away discrepancies this season. The right-hander is solid at Coors Field (2-0, 4.31) but struggles mightily on the road (0-5, 6.81). Gonzalez does, however, carry momentum into Thursday’s start after he limited the Cardinals to two runs over seven innings last week — tied for his longest start of the season. Gonzalez has made two previous appearances against Arizona with no record and a 5.06 ERA. Faria, a 27-year-old California native, will make his third start of the season.
Trending: The Rockies entered Wednesday night with 691 induced ground balls this season to lead the majors. Colorado’s 79 double plays rank second in the National League.
At issue: The Rockies went 12-8 over their previous 20 games before Wednesday, however, just one of those victories came away from home (June 23 at the Seattle Mariners). Colorado’s miserable .157 road winning percentage is an MLB-worst this season.
