Think Outside the 'Bach' Enroll in Band Camp at Ramblewood Middle School - Coral Springs Talk

By: Bryan Boggiano

Students with a passion for music once again can attend Ramblewood Middle School’s band camp. It returns for the first time since 2019.

John Nista, Ramblewood Middle School’s band director for 25 years., runs the camp, along with middle and high school band directors, parents, and former students.

Students perform as a large ensemble during camp and then break into sections based on instruments played and experience level, according to Nista.

“Our focus is to offer band instruction at a higher level to develop musicianship that is not possible during the school year,” Nista said. “I feel band is a safe place where students can share music-making and develop a life-long appreciation of music through self-discipline, developing goals, and learning team skills.

Band Boosters Treasurer, Kara Rodman, has two children who attended Ramblewood’s band camp and said that it not only helps her children in their music education but also has something to offer for everybody.

“I believe Mr. Nista’s band camp offers not only his students but the community’s students an opportunity to try something new without dedicating an entire school year to it,” she said. “I haven’t seen one student leave Mr. Nista’s program not enjoying themselves and being inspired to play.”

Ramblewood Middle School’s Band Camp returns June 14 and continues through June 25 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Registration is open through June 7. The cost is $200 per student and includes music, a t-shirt, and a face mask. Students do not have to attend Ramblewood Middle to attend. Students between third and ninth grade can attend.

Rodman said any parent would be glad to have Nista teach their child.

“He is an extremely valuable and beloved teacher in our community,” she said. “He is one in a million.”
