The Cleveland Browns are just starting their second year under general manager Andrew Berry but have made some additions and promotions among their front office and operations staff.

After a very successful 2020 season, the Browns are hoping to build on that both on the field and in their administrative group.

The promotions noted in today’s release are:

Nick Byford – Video Assistant

Kory Gillissie – Assistant Equipment Manager

Katy Meassick – Director of Performance Nutrition

Bryant Swindle – Director of Team Logistics

Kathleen Wood – Area Scout

Among the new additions to the team’s staff is former player Anthony Fabiano who played offensive line in the league for five years. Fabiano fits the front office as he has a degree from Harvard in economics.

The rest of the new additions are:

Anthony Fabiano – Scouting Assistant

Unit Ranasaria – Football Research Analyst

Joy Tapajcik – Football Operations Assistant/Special Projects

Josh Temple – Scouting Assistant

Darryl MaGee – Equipment Assistant

Carson Walch – Player Development Coordinator

A common theme among many of the additions is being data or information based history including Ranasaria who worked for Microsoft at one time:

Ranasaria joins the Browns after working as a Software Engineer at Microsoft in Azure Batch. A Carnegie Mellon alum, Ranasaria won Honorable Mention at the 2021 Big Data Bowl for his group’s paper on passing value, for which Ranasaria was responsible for developing pass-completion model simulations using physics projections.

So far so good for the new front office, at least with results on the field. Their continued focus on information analysis while still making room for football acumen, as seen by the hiring of a former NFL offensive lineman, seems to push the front office to have the best of both worlds.

None of the additions or promotions seem significant for fans at this point but it will be interesting to see if any of these hires or promotions find their way up the office ladder, in Cleveland or elsewhere, in the future.

For now, some names to store away in the back of your mind for later use.
