Cold front approaching - WAOW

worldinmiddleeast.blogspot.com

A cold front will be approaching tonight bringing a quick line of rain showers to the area and much cooler temperatures. Expect well below seasonal temperatures for the first half of the week before conditions rebound just ahead of the weekend.

This Afternoon: Increasing cloudiness and 60% chance of light rain after 8 PM.

High: Near 60 Wind: WSW ~ 10

Tonight: Light rain possible and snow to the far north.

Low: 33 Wind: SW 5-15

Monday: Mostly cloudy, breezy and much cooler. Light snow showers to the far north otherwise dry.

High: 42 Wind: NW 10-18

You will be able to feel the temperature change tonight as a cold front passes through. Also, on the leading edge of the cold air, there will be a line of rain showers that will likely pass through north-central Wisconsin between 8 PM - 2 AM. Rain totals will be light, only expecting around a tenth of an inch, but there will be residual moisture to the north and northwest. As the wind shifts to the NW, blowoff moisture from Lake Superior will move into cities near the northern Wisconsin border and create flakes of lake effect snowfall which will continue into Monday morning. The northern half of Ashland and Iron counties could expect to see an inch or two of accumulating snowfall. Otherwise, the rest of the area will stay mostly dry.

Monday will be noticeably cooler with high temperatures in the low 40s and mostly cloudy skies. You will want to wear a jacket to keep warm as it may feel more like late winter than early spring. Additionally, there will be a moderate breeze from the northwest (10-18mph), so while we may sit in the 40s, the windchill will be much cooler.

Tuesday and Wednesday will also both be quite dry but unfortunately cloudy and cool. Expect to see little sun on both days and temperatures in the 40s.

Thursday onward will warm back to seasonal weather with temperatures rebounding to the upper 50s aided by breezy winds from the south. As we head into the weekend, temperatures will stay nice in the 50s but there will be another chance for light rain, especially to the NW on Friday and Saturday.

Have a terrific rest of your Sunday! Meteorologist Jackson Garlock 18 April 2021
