RIVERVIEW — Two people were seriously injured when one car turned left in front of another and they collided Tuesday night on U.S. 301 in Riverview, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. at the Lake Charles Boulevard intersection.
One car was headed north on U.S. 301 and was turning left when it was struck on the passenger side by an oncoming southbound car that had the green light, according to the Highway Patrol.
A 31-year-old woman who was a passenger in the turning car suffered serious injuries. So did the man driving the oncoming car, 18. The man driving the turning car, 61, received minor injuries. He was cited for making an improper left turn.
All three were from Riverview. Only the driver of the oncoming car was wearing seatbelts.
The Highway Patrol did not release their names because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
