PHOENIX — New methods of identity theft and fraud are developed each year, leaving personal information exposed and vulnerable.

According to an article by WalletHub.com, Arizonans are fairly well protected.

The state ranks slightly above-average in protecting its citizens from identity theft and fraud, coming in at No. 31 in the country.

Arizona ranks No. 28 in the country for most identity theft and No. 18 in the country for most fraud.

Identity theft rankings were compiled based on complaints per capita and average amount of money lost.

Fraud rankings were compiled based complaints per capita, median amount of money lost, people arrested for fraud per capita and e-commerce attack rates.

Florida was ranked as the state with the most identity theft and the state with the most overall identity theft and fraud.

Delaware was ranked as the state with the most fraud.

The article also suggests ways to prevent identity theft and fraud.

Those steps include creating two-step verification for emails, signing up for credit monitoring, updating contact information, avoiding emails from untrustworthy sources and avoiding websites that don’t begin with “https” in the URL.
