A motorcyclist from New Port Richey was killed Tuesday after a driver turned left in front of him on State Road 54, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The 64-year-old motorcyclist was riding west on State Road 54 about 1:30 p.m. when an 86-year-old woman behind the wheel of an eastbound car made a left turn in front of him at Duck Slough Road, troopers reported.
The car hit the motorcycle and both came to rest in the intersection. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital, where he died, troopers said.
The woman who was driving the car had minor injuries. Her 88-year-old male passenger was not injured, troopers said. Both are from New Port Richey.
Troopers did not release the names of the motorcyclist or the people in the car due to the agency’s interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to Florida’s constitution that’s meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
An investigation is ongoing.
