SAGINAW, MI — Falafel Hut Middle Eastern Cuisine is the place to go for shawarma, hummus, falafel, fattouch salad and more.
Owner Nawal Hamd calls it Middle Eastern street food and she makes everything from scratch. Her halal shawarma dishes are among her most popular offerings.
“The beef/lamb shawarma really knocks it out of the park, people really love that beef and lamb together. And my chicken shawarma because of the garlic, they love that,” Hamd said.
There are some newer items on the menu, too, such as the falafel salad with creamy tahini sauce and the beef and lamb “nachos,” made with deep-fried pita chips and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and Hamd’s homemade hummus. Everything is priced at about $10 or less.
“I have a lot of fusion food,” Hamd said. “My menu has expanded and customers love it because they can pretty much create their own."
On Wednesdays and Fridays, Falafel Hut offers rotisserie chickens, by request. Pick up a whole chicken with garlic bread and fries or salad for $10, but be sure to call ahead and place your order in advance.
Falafel Hut opened inside the SVRC Marketplace, 203 S. Washington Ave., in 2018. Hamd is a first-time business owner who comes from a family of entrepreneurs and has always loved to cook.
“It allows you to grow in life and it allows you to change real fast,” she said of being a business owner. “It’s my first business and it’s gone great.”
