Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop introduced a $658 million municipal budget Monday for 2020 that will increase spending as the city copes with the heavy economic impact caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic has left the city with a $70 million budget hole due to a lost revenue and additional expenses, prompting officials to find $25 million worth of cuts and other savings measures.

Despite positive COVID-19 trends in New Jersey, Gov. Phil Murphy says reopening indoor dining and bars is still too risky. Plus, New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli on Monday announced a plan that would gradually lift New Jersey’s 150-day lockdown on long-term care facilities, by first permitting a designated caregiver inside a resident’s room and by expanding the reasons why a family member may be allowed to visit.

In Sports, President Donald Trump is calling for college football to be played this fall amid the coronavirus pandemic, throwing his support behind a player movement as the Big Ten appears to be on the fast-track toward canceling the season.
