The cold front we have been tracking from the Plains to the Midwest will continue to move eastbound and bring impacts from the Great Lakes, New England, and the Middle Atlantic now through Wednesday. This front is expected to bring a few severe storms with the main threat being strong winds gusts along the front.
Tuesday
The Storm Prediction Center has parts of New England into the Middle Atlantic under a marginal risk (level 1 on a scale of 1 to 5) for today (Tuesday).
The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts with passing severe storms from Maine to Virginia.
Storms will be strongest along the leading edge of the cold front. Daytime heating will also drive some of those strong updrafts that create and sustain thunderstorms. These storms are expected during the afternoon and continue into the evening (Tuesday). The images below show our model guidance with these storms:
Wednesday
Severe thundertorms will be driven by another cold front moving into the Great Lakes. We will monitor this front and update changes based on the timing into the region Wednesday. The Storm Prediction Center has areas east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario under a marginal risk for severe storms.
Along with strong wind gusts, a few severe storms may contain large hail. Here is the latest track based on model guidance:
